Process
We treat each project as unique, but our working process remains reliable and consistent;
We begin with a detailed consultation to understand the project;
- Location and project overview
- Purpose of the wine space (e.g. long-term wine storage, statement wine display, etc)
- Wine collection storage needs (e.g. cases, large formats, quantity, champagne, wine types etc)
- Design style (e.g. traditional/contemporary, maximalist/minimalist) and material choices (e.g. wood, glass, metal etc)
- Environmental and technical factors (e.g. temperature control, humidity, lighting and site access)
No matter your location globslly, we visit your site to take detailed measurements and assess practical considerations to understand the physical context for technical accuracy. We often take photos of anything we need to consider and we help identify any issues that might arise and communicate this with you and the Sorrells team.
Our UK based, in-house designers take their lead from all information provided so far and translate the vision into a presentation to you using;
- High-quality 3D rendered images and technical drawings
- Real samples of finishes and materials (e.g. wood, metal, ironmongery etc)
Further design considerations between you and the creative team continue until you are totally satisfied and ready to approve and proceed.
On approval, we prepare full and detailed technical drawings and specifications;
- Construction details
- Climate control and integration
- Joinery, glass and metalwork
- Lighting
- Architectural plans
We maintain complete control over every aspect of production, from cabinetry and bespoke climate control systems to the intricate metalwork, by keeping it all in-house. Clients are always welcome to visit and see their project during the manufacturing phase. Our HQ houses the latest pieces of machinery, helping our skilled team of joiners create the bespoke design.
Your project is delivered and installed by our own expert fitting teams. For international projects, we handle every aspect of shipping and customs. Your cellar is packed and shipped from the UK to overseas, ready for installation. Our specialist fitting teams travel from the UK to ensure your cellar is installed to exact Sorrells standards. Once complete, we conduct a full handover to confirm all systems work and fittings and finishes meet your expectations.
All Sorrells projects come with a comprehensive warranty for;
- Joinery and Metal (cabinetry, frames and fittings)
- Temperature control (with optional service packages )
We provide practical advice on wine storage, equipment use, and long-term care. We also give maintenance guidance, servicing and any post-installation support you may need.

Who installs the cellars?
Our UK installation teams travel to the US for each project, working closely with our American team to achieve flawless results. By keeping the installation process within the Sorrells company, we are able to have complete control of the process.
What is the typical lead time?
Design and production take approximately 12-16 weeks, followed by 4 weeks for shipping and installation. Timelines may vary based on project size and changes to the initial design.
When is the best time to contact Sorrells to start the process?
It’s never too early to begin the conversation. Many of our US clients reach out during the initial planning stages of a new build or renovation, which allows our design team to advise on the best cellar location, space requirements, and environmental considerations such as temperature control and access. Early involvement ensures your wine cellar is seamlessly integrated into the overall design of the property.
However, we also regularly design and install cellars in existing homes, restaurants, and hotels. Whether you’re incorporating a wine room into a finished space or planning one as part of a new development, our team can adapt to suit your timeline and environment, delivering a bespoke solution that enhances your space and collection.
