Sorrells was appointed to design and craft a fully bespoke installation that would feel at home in this characterful setting. The result is a wine room that pairs solid hardwood ash joinery with a Fired Earth ‘Modernist White’ exterior, creating a gentle contrast between natural grain and painted surface. This balance allows the wine wall to read as a purposeful architectural feature; refined, understated, and entirely in keeping with the tone of the house.
This wine room was crafted to serve not only as a dedicated storage space, but as an elegant, functional extension of the client’s open-plan kitchen and dining area. With its location at the heart of the home, the brief called for a solution that would balance formality with warmth, something that could store a serious collection while inviting everyday use and interaction.
Along one of the two glazed walls, acrylic racking was introduced to create a clean, almost invisible structure, giving the impression of floating bottles suspended in space. This feature adds lightness to the design and allows the collection to remain visually open to the rest of the room, making the wine wall feel integrated rather than enclosed.
Understanding that the client held a significant number of wine by the case, the design includes generous drawer and shelving space, allowing for organised, concealed storage that complements the clean lines of the joinery. A dedicated spirits and preparation area was also built into the layout, complete with open shelving, transforming the room from a purely functional wine wall into a social hub for entertaining and pre-dinner drinks.
