As part of a wider garage renovation, this project transformed a functional storage area into a purpose-built entertaining space, complete with lounge seating, a fireplace, dining table, and a bespoke wine room. The client’s brief was to create a wine-focused environment that felt considered and architectural, supporting both storage and social use.
Sorrells was appointed to design and manufacture a series of custom wine storage features, including a main wine wall, a dramatic double-height scallop rack, and tailored cabinetry. The joinery is constructed from redwood with a light oak finish, chosen for its natural warmth and ability to complement the interior palette.
Across the space, joinery was developed to be both practical and visually balanced, supporting a growing collection.
The main wine wall includes a combination of standard racking, open display shelving, and cube storage. This mix allows the client to store bottles by format, vintage, or volume, offering both capacity and flexibility. The clean, grid-based design ensures visual structure while supporting everyday use.
A dramatic scallop racking wall spans two storeys, stretching from the lower entertaining area up to the first floor. Designed as both a functional store and architectural feature, this element draws the eye upward and becomes a defining focal point in the space, merging storage with spatial impact.
Bespoke cabinetry was introduced to house wine accessories, glassware, and spirits. Designed with concealed storage and tailored compartments, the unit allows the space to remain uncluttered while keeping everything easily accessible, combining practicality with a furniture-quality finish.

At Sorrells Custom Wine Rooms, we recently completed a captivating project in Wimbledon, transforming a once-standard garage into an inviting space perfect for social gatherings.
Our first project within this space was a back wall wine rack, designed for both utility and visual impact. The top portion incorporates standard racking, ideal for storing multiple wine bottles. At the center, we introduced angled shelving along with glass shelves to showcase spirit bottles or accessories. The lower part of the wine rack features cube racking and angled displays, offering a functional yet visually appealing design.
Given the narrow nature of the garage, we rose to the challenge by constructing a two-story wine wall featuring scallop racking. This design allowed us to maximize storage space without compromising aesthetics.
The third feature is a piece of custom cabinetry crafted specifically for additional bottle storage or accessories. Like all elements of this project, this cabinet was made to fit seamlessly within the available space.
We used either oak or redwood for all these custom wine racks and cabinetry. To bring all elements together, we integrated LED lighting throughout the wine room, adding an extra layer of sophistication.
Through this Wimbledon-based project, we demonstrated how even a limited space can be transformed into a social and storage hub, all while embodying the luxury and utility associated with Sorrells Custom Wine Rooms.
