Beneath an existing staircase sat just three metres of available wall space and a challenging sloping ceiling. The brief was to transform this underused area into a dedicated wine cellar capable of housing a growing collection while feeling entirely at home within the surrounding interior.
The finished cellar has been carefully designed around both the architecture of the space and the collection it stores. Matt black powder-coated metal framing and glazed doors create a refined enclosure beneath the staircase, while bespoke pull handles, manufactured in-house by Sorrells, have been colour matched to the powder-coated spindles above, ensuring the cellar feels like a natural extension of the wider design scheme.
Inside, bespoke European oak wine racking with a clear oiled finish protects the timber while preserving its natural colour and character. Bronze rod racking presents bottles label-forward for easy viewing, while scallop racking lines the rear wall and extends seamlessly to the front glazing. Every available inch has been utilised, yet the cellar remains open, balanced and uncluttered. Soft integrated lighting highlights the collection and enhances the warmth of the oak, while mirror and antique gold mirror detailing draw the eye deeper into the space, creating a greater sense of depth and display.
The result is a bespoke under stairs wine cellar that combines practical wine storage with considered craftsmanship. Built around the geometry of the room and the collection it holds, it transforms an overlooked area into a feature that feels both purposeful and perfectly at home within its environment.
