Set within a Grade II listed home, this bespoke wine cellar was designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing architecture. The brief focused on creating a refined and highly functional wine cellar in a listed property, balancing capacity performance with sensitivity to the character of the building. Light oak joinery was selected to enhance the natural proportions of the space, remaining appropriate for a historic interior. The wine cellar layout was developed carefully around the constraints of the listed structure, with storage capacity, circulation and sight lines considered from the outset to ensure a harmonious result.
Rather than altering the fabric of the building, the design works with it. Original architectural elements were preserved and incorporated into the scheme, reinforcing a sense of continuity throughout the cellar. Bespoke wine racking was tailored precisely to the room, providing efficient and elegant storage suited to a wine cellar within a listed property. Specific spaces within the room were highlighted, such as utilising alcoves, transforming them into display features. This project demonstrates how a bespoke wine cellar in a listed property can be successfully realised, combining sensitive design, expert craftsmanship and modern wine storage solutions within a Grade II listed home.
