Wine Wall Questions Answered

Where Is The Best Places for a Wine Wall in the Home?

Temperature Control Considerations: The decision of where to place your wine wall hinges on whether you’ll include a temperature control system. With Sorrells’ adaptable temperature control systems, you can place a wine wall almost anywhere in your home. For those concerned about UV exposure, our argon gas-filled glass mitigates the effects of UV rays, which we’ll discuss more in this article.

Without Temperature Control: If you opt out of temperature control, choose spots with stable temperatures, ie not in direct sunlight, a room with underfloor heating or located near a radiator. Always avoid placing wine walls above underfloor heating, as it can adversely affect your wine, regardless of temperature control.

How Do I Build a Wine Wall?

Designing Your Space: Begin by measuring your space. Reflect on the wine wall’s design and its harmony with your home’s interior. Functionality is key; ensure the racking system not only meets your storage needs but also organises your collection systematically.

Tailored Solutions: Sorrells will craft designs that resonate with your space, aesthetic preferences, and wine collection. A Sorrells wine wall not only looks the part, but is designed with your personal wine collection in mind, creating an organised space.

How Much Does a Wine Wall Cost?

Custom Pricing: As each Sorrells wine wall is tailored to the individual collection, costs vary significantly. Factors to consider include the need for temperature control, spatial dimensions, capacity, and material choice.

Price Range: Costs can range from under £1,000 for modular racks such as the made to measure service from Traditional Wine Rack Company (check out our sister brand, Tanglewood for further information, click here.) to upwards of £50,000 for a fully bespoke Sorrells wine wall.

Materials: The use of different materials pay a major role in the cost fluctuations. Wine wall designs are as unique as the property owner. As joiners, most Sorrells wine cellars will be manufactured using wood. However, we have been known to integrate stone Vinicase or wire racking into our designs. Thanks to the addition of Sorrells Metalworks factory, we can now integrate in house manufactured frames and doors using a range of metals and styles. Such an offering has been popular with the increase of Crittall style interior doors.

The Quality Assurance of Sorrells: Working within your budget, Sorrells maintains the highest quality standards, adjusting designs and materials to manage costs without compromising on excellence.

Temperature-Controlled Wine Walls

Custom Designs: Our temperature-controlled wine walls come with bespoke insulation and cooling units, designed to fit seamlessly into your chosen space, complete with custom panelling and grills.

Essential for Preservation: Proper temperature control is vital for preserving your wine at the optimal storage temperature of approximately 55°F.

How To integrate a Wine Wall into Your Home?

Seamless Integration: The design of your wine wall should complement your home’s existing décor, appearing as an intrinsic part of your space.  We frequently collaborate with interior designers to materialise their concepts, ensuring a cohesive and integrated wine wall design.

Wine Walls and Radiators

Avoiding Heat: Installing a wine wall near a radiator is not advisable due to the potential impact on the wine’s ageing process. If ageing wine is the aim of the game, a stable temperature is a must for proper preservation.

Alternative Solutions: Look for alternative spots or incorporate a temperature control system within an enclosed space if proximity to a heat source is unavoidable. Or just turn the radiator off!

Can A Wine Wall Face a Window?

UV Risks: Direct sunlight and UV rays can harm your wine collection over time.

UV Protection: Utilise UV-protected glass to shield your wine. Sorrells offers Argon filled glass as an effective protective measure.

In essence, a wine wall is an adaptable and stylish addition to any home, customisable to fit your unique space and design preferences. It’s important to carefully consider environmental factors like heat and sunlight when planning for your wine wall’s location.
